Hi, There
About FyberDyne
We’re many things. First and foremost, we’re a group of lifelong friends who love using our talents to build cool stuff. We’ve worked together for decades now. In the early days we were like the Borg, assimilating other costumers along the way to round out our group: a “Resistance is futile, we will add your costuming distinctiveness to our own” sort of thing. It all started in 1983 when Don and Edward built the first “Biker Scout,” followed shortly by Edward, Don, and Rob’s “Ghostbusters” project.
Our main medium is fiberglass, but we work with a wide range of materials. We love leatherwork, sewing, foam carving, makeup, and sculpting. We also build most of the props we carry. While our main tailor, Leman, can sew almost anything, over the years several of the guys
have become skilled at sewing as well, thanks to a “bleed over” effect whereby skills are transmitted from Fyberdynian to Fyberdynian.
Three hallmarks of a “high functioning group” are, first, that its members have strong a commitment to the group; second, that they have unique and diverse skillsets; third, that they “live life” together. All these are central to our core mission to “build very cool stuff” while respecting each other in the process. Our differences are our core strengths, because they allow us to tackle complex problems from several angles. We recognized that truth in 1999 and leveraged it to make us stronger instead of letting our differences sunder us.
We enjoy each other’s company and respect each other’s work. The “secret sauce” of our group is our differences. We work together best when our talents overlap least. Our differing skills and perspectives enable us to approach challenges from multiple angles, achieve our goals faster, and produce the highest-quality work. From time to time our differences create friction, but in the end our friendship and shared passion prevail.
